We can direct bill to most insurance companies for your treatment, as long as your insurance plan allows for direct billing.
Please note that it is our policy that you must have alternate payment available in the event that billing your insurance directly is not available for any circumstance.
Sometimes insurance provider portals crash or are down due to system maintenance, or perhaps your insurance provider requires more information and will not approve treatment coverage at this time. We do not have any control as to how your insurance provider determines approval.
We can certainly direct bill both your primary and secondary insurance plans in most cases.
Some insurance companies do not allow direct billing if they are a secondary plan. We do not have control over this unfortunately - instead, you must pay and submit the treatment yourself to the secondary insurance company. This varies by case and as per our policy, we recommend to have alternative payment available in case your secondary plan will not direct bill. We will always attempt to bill both plans and let you know if any issues arise.
Insurance companies that usually do not direct bill as a secondary plan through TelusHealth are:
We understand the confusion! Insurance companies can be tricky, most especially when there is a coordination of benefits across multiple plans involved.
Insurance coordination of benefits, depending on which two insurance providers you are with, will work in 1 of the following ways:
Each insurance provider is different and may determine coordination of benefits in accordance to one of the above rules.
We can most definitely direct bill your Alberta Blue Cross Seniors' Plan.
Unfortunately, we are given very little information from your insurance provider when we submit your treatment claim.
If at the end of your appointment, there is a co-pay amount remaining that must be paid that your insurance company will not cover, it is likely that:
For any clarification on your benefits coverage, please contact your insurance provider directly.
Unfortunately, we are given very little information from your insurance provider when we submit your treatment claim.
Most of the time, your insurance company will cover a larger amount for Initial Exams/Assessments and then for subsequent treatments, will only cover a certain percentage.
For any clarification on your benefits coverage, please contact your insurance provider directly.

We certainly do offer treatments for Motor Vehicle Accident injury claims.
Alberta offers Motor Vehicle Accident injury treatment through what is called the Diagnostic Treatment Protocols Regulation (DTPR), and will cover either 10 or 21 treatments (all modalities) depending on your injury diagnosis. With the DTPR, each treatment is set at a provincially regulated rate and your vehicle insurance company will compensate the clinic directly for your treatments.
After the DTPR is over, you may be eligible for Section B treatments if your injury has not resolved. Like the DTPR, Section B is also provincially regulated. However, unlike the DTPR, Section B does not completely fund your treatment. If you have extended health benefits (ex. Sunlife, Manulife, Blue Cross, etc), they must be billed first for your treatment and then Section B will cover the remaining cost that your extended health insurance does not.
If you were recently in a collision and have not yet begun treatment/filed a claim with your vehicle insurance, please book an MVA Assessment with us and report the accident to your vehicle insurance company as soon as possible.
If you were recently in a collision and have already been receiving treatment elsewhere, but would like to also receive treatment at YYC Sport & Spine, it is important to note that MVA injury claims will only cover 1 assessment per claim. A 2nd assessment at our clinic is necessary and will likely not be covered by your MVA claim; however, all subsequent treatments after this 2nd assessment are still eligible for coverage.

Unfortunately, we are not a AHS contracted/funded facility so we are unable to offer coverage through AHS at this time. You can request a list of AHS affiliated facilities from AHS directly.
If you were prescribed a certain amount of treatments by a family physician or recommended for outpatient treatment after a surgery, your treatments are likely being offered and covered through AHS at no cost to you. This means that you can only receive treatment at an AHS contracted facility.
